Baseball: Haapajoki, Peterson help Warriors to 4-2 win over Rocori
COLD SPRING—Alex Haapajoki went 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs and McCale Peterson pitched six shutout innings as the Brainerd Warriors beat the Rocori Spartans 4-2 in Central Lakes Conference action Tuesday.
Peterson, who also supplied two hits, went the distance on the mound allowing six hits and two runs (both earned). He struck out three and walked one. He shut out the Spartans until the seventh.
Colin Kleffman finished 2-4 and drove in the Warriors' other run.
Brainerd scored twice in the third on a double by Hunter Wicklund and singles by Kleffman and Haapajoki.
A 2-run top of the seventh, with all hits coming with two out, propelled Brainerd into a 4-0 edge. Kleffman and Boran provided singles and Haapajoki doubled.
Brandon Gill took the loss for Rocori. He surrendered 10 hits and four earned runs with six strikeouts and two walks in a complete game.
"Sam Miller had a great game defensively at third base," Warriors coach Lowell Scearcy said. "He started a couple double plays."
Brainerd ends the regular season Thursday, May 24, at Alexandria. The Section 8-4A tournament is scheduled to open Tuesday, May 30, at the high seeds.
