Boys Basketball: Tech downs Warriors in CLC contest
ST. CLOUD—Joey Sauer drained eight of 11 shots including three of five three-pointers and finished with 20 points as the Brainerd Warriors dropped an 83-71 Central Lakes Conference decision to the St. Cloud Tech Tigers Thursday.
Owen Davis added 12 points, Chris Karels 11 and Ben Staehling 10 for the Warriors who trailed 46-23 at halftime.
"We got down by 23 in a very lethargic first half," said Brainerd head coach Scott Stanfield. "We came out with great energy (the second half) and effort and cut the lead to 10 on a couple occasions.
"Tech shot well all night and made it difficult to sustain momentum. We struggled at the free throw line which made it difficult to set pressure later in the game."
Five Tech players reached double figures led by Trent Meyer with 16. The Tigers shot 50 percent (11-22) from three-point range and 60 percent (30-50) overall from the field.
Tech beat the Warriors 51-47 at Brainerd Jan. 9
"We will have a shoot around (Friday) prior to the Rogers game and prepare to play another quality team," said Stanfield.
