Raiders rally to win opener

WILLMAR — The Central Lakes Raiders opened the season a little nervous, but rallied  from an 0-2 deficit to defeat Dawson of Montana 3-2 in their opening match in the Ridgewater College Classic Tournament Friday.

The Raiders dropped the first two games by identical scores of 25-20 before coming back to win 25-23, 25-21 and 15-7.

“It was the first match of the year and we were appropriately nervous,” said CLC coach Jane Peterson. “But, we improved as we went on as you can see from the scores.”

“Everyone played and did the job they were asked to do ... our versatility might be our strength, especially when we play two (matches) in a day. It was a good first match.”

The Raiders were scheduled to play Ellsworth (Iowa) at 8 p.m. Friday and Ridgewater and Dakota County on Saturday.
