Tautges hired as assistant coach

Brainerd High School graduate Joe Tautges has been hired as an assistant baseball coach at Waldorf College in Forest City, Iowa.

The 27-year-old Tautges, a 2002 BHS graduate, played three seasons at Waldorf (2002-03, 2003-04 and 2005-06). He also was an assistant at Waldorf during the 2006-07 season, after which he graduated.

Tautges played the 2004-05 season at Division I Evansville (Ind.).

The Waldorf position is full-time and year-round and starts Tuesday.

“I’m really excited about doing it,” said Tautges, who coached the Brainerd American Legion team this summer. “(Coaching) is something I’ve always wanted to do. I think I have enough knowledge to better myself and to better the kids I will be coaching. It will be a good experience for me.”
