Raiders’ regular season comes to abrupt end
Central Lakes Raiders sophomores saw a great two-year run come to an abrupt end with a 26-14 loss to Ridgewater on Saturday.
The last two years, the Raiders went a combined 17-4, won the MCAC Southern Division championship in 2010 and played in the Valley of the Sun Bowl in Phoenix last year.
“It’s a special group of guys, who have made my life very enjoyable, and I value every minute that I have had with them and being able to work them, “ said CLC head coach Greg Medeck.
“I’m going to miss them,” he added. “They are good football players with a great record over the last two years. We will have to replace a number of good players, and great people.”
The Raiders played their typical style of stingy defense as they allowed just 124 total yards to the Warriors. It was mistakes that did them in as CLC turned the ball over eight times, and gave Ridgewater a short field on all four of their scoring drives.
The state playoffs don’t begin until next weekend, but Saturday’s game was a playoff game for the Raiders and Vikings as both came into the game with identical records. Only one team could advance to the playoffs from the South Division along with No. 1 seed Rochester.
Both teams brought intensity and physicality in the first quarter which was reflected in a 0-0 score.
