TRACK AND FIELD: Pierz's Jensen's MIAC athlete of week
MOORHEAD — Two days after breaking MIAC and Concordia College records in the heptathlon, Kaari Jensen of Pierz was named the MIAC Women’s Field Athlete of the Week.
It’s the second time in four weeks Jensen has earned the award.
She blew away the competition at the MIAC Heptathlon May 4-5. In the process she set an MIAC record as well as breaking the Cobbers’ program mark. Jensen broke the MIAC record of 4,668 which was set in 2005. Her total is the second-highest in NCAA Division III this year.
Jensen also edged former teammate Leah Kay’s school record of 4,812 points set in the 2010 NCAA Championship Meet.
Jensen set personal-best marks in three of the seven events. She also had the best marks of any competitor in five of the seven events.
In addition to her school record final total, she also posted the third-fastest time in the 100-meter hurdles, running a 15.14 in the first event of the heptathlon on Friday.
Jensen’s highest point total in any event came in the 100-meter hurdles where she scored 823 points. She scored at least 600 points in all but one event and scored more than 650 points in four of the seven competitions.
The Cobbers compete in the MIAC meet Thursday and Friday at Concordia.
