Women's Basketball: Raiders women drop fifth straight

The Central Lakes College Raiders were tagged with their fifth-consecutive loss as the Anoka-Ramsey Rams beat them 83-47 in a non-division game Friday.

Jalynn Lamb led the Raiders with 13 points. She added three rebounds and a steal. Lamb shot 4-of-11 from the field as the Raiders were held to 34-percent shooting as a team.

“Overall, as a team, our shooting percentage is not good,” said Raiders head coach Dennis Eastman. “We spent a lot of time over Thanksgiving break working on new drills and new passes and they came out really strong for the first 6-7 minutes and then lost momentum.”

While the Raiders secured the lead six times during the game, by halftime they were down 46-31. After shooting 41 percent in the first half, CLC was 6-of-23 in the second half (26 percent), including 0-5 from 3-point. Lindsay Monson added nine points followed by Sierra Benning’s eight.

“I feel like they’re getting to that point where they might be discouraged,” said Eastman, “but all of these women love basketball and they want to play and we’re moving in the right direction. You have to go through all the valleys and plains to get to the top of the mountain.”

Nicole Howard’s 17 points led the Rams, who had four other players reach double figures. Kelli Schramm added 12 points and 10 rebounds. Howard led the Rams with 11 boards as they outrebounded CLC 40-25 and got 17 second-chance points.

A-R shot 45 percent from the field and were 18-of-22 from the line compared to CLC’s 13-of-20.

“Anoka-Ramsey is an aggressive team, they never slow down,” said Eastman. “It’s good to play teams like this because it makes them understand the level of competitiveness out there and where we need to be.”
