Men's College Basketball: Raiders clinch second place with win at Mesabi
VIRGINIA — Brandon Davis finished with a team high 14 points, grabbed eight rebounds and tallied six assists as the Central Lakes College Raiders defeated Mesabi by a 61-48 score in a Northern Division game on Wednesday night.
The halftime score was 30-20 and CLC outscored the Norse by a three point margin in the second half. It was their ninth straight win and the Raiders earned a season series sweep over Mesabi.
“We took care of the basketball in the second half,” said head coach Jim Russell. “It was a low scoring game and we shot a high percentage, and didn’t rush into a lot of shots. Bacarius Dinkins is one of the best players in the conference and holding him to seven points was impressive, and we shot well from the free-throw line.”
With the win, CLC moved to 11-2 in division play and now has clinched a second place finish behind Vermilion. They will finish off the regular season by hosting Northland on Saturday.
“All four sophomores probably will start on Saturday,” said Russell. “Kahreem Horsley was out tonight with an injury but will play on Saturday. It was a tough environment tonight but taking care of the basketball and defense was the key.”
