Men's College Hockey: Gophers win first North Star College Cup
ST. PAUL — Minnesota won its first shootout in four tries this season to capture the championship in the inaugural North Star College Cup against Minnesota-Duluth on Saturday at the Xcel Energy Center.
The Gophers received shootout goals from Kyle Rau and Seth Ambroz to secure the title win in a game that officially ended as a 4-4 tie.
Gophers goaltender Adam Wilcox turned aside both shootout attempts he saw on his way to being named the tournament’s most valuable player.
The Gophers are unbeaten in their last 12 games — nine wins and three ties. Minnesota is 18-2-4 overall and hosts Michigan State next weekend.

ST. PAUL — Adam Wilcox turned away 38 shots and four different Gophers scored as top-ranked Minnesota downed St. Cloud State 4-1 in the opening round Friday.
Nate Condon, Seth Ambroz, Travis Boyd and Hudson Fasching scored the Gopher goals. Mike Reilly contributed two assists.
