Track and Field: Former Warrior Kosobud wins MIAC honor

College of St. Benedict first-year mid-distance runner Allison Kosobud of Brainerd earned MIAC Indoor Track Athlete of the Week honors on Tuesday.

Kosobud smashed a school record in the mile run last weekend, helping the Blazer track and field team to a win at the St. Benedict Triangular. She posted a 5:02.79 to win the event by 20 seconds, and break the old record by nearly 10 seconds.

Her time leads the MIAC and ranks 12th in Division III this season.

Kosobud also set a school record in the 1000-meter earlier this season, with her 2:54.28 on Feb. 7.

The mile record is her second school record in her first season. She also set the school mark in the 1,000-meter run earlier this season. She also has the league’s top time in the 1,000 in 2014.

The Blazers will be in action this weekend as they co-host a meet at St. John’s indoor facility in Collegeville. The meet starts at 11 a.m.

Kosobud and teammates have just two regular-season events left to prepare for the MIAC Indoor Track and Field Championships, which they will co-host with the Johnnies March 7-8.
