College Baseball: Fairbanks named All-American by ABCA

Post-season awards continued to roll in for University of Wisconsin-Superior senior outfielder Tom Fairbanks of Brainerd, who on Friday was named a first-team All-American by the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA).

Fairbanks is the first UW-Superior player ever to receive All-American honors from the ABCA.

Appearing in all 35 UWS games, Fairbanks batted .439 (58-for-132). He had seven doubles, eight triples and 14 home runs to go along with 44 runs scored and 61 RBIs. Fairbanks had a slugging percentage of .932 and an on-base percentage of .529.

He led the Yellowjackets in most offensive categories and led the WIAC in slugging percentage, on-base percentage, triples, and runs batted in.

The All-American award wasn’t all that came Fairbanks’ way Friday. It was also announced by the ABCA that Fairbanks was named first-team All-Midwest Region, adding to a post-season haul that already included first-team All-WIAC, first-team All-Midwest Region by, and honorable mention All-American by

Last weekend Fairbanks participated in a Minnesota Twins tryout camp where he showcased his skills for scouts of multiple Major League Baseball teams leading into the MLB Draft June 5-7.

In 2014 the Yellowjackets finished 17-18 overall and 8-14 in the WIAC, where they placed fifth after being chosen to finish seventh in the WIAC pre-season poll.
