Boys Soccer: Warriors remain unbeaten with shutout of Storm
Mason Malone kicked in three goals for the unbeaten Brainerd Warriors as they shut out the Sauk Rapids Storm 5-0 at Adamson Field in a Central Lakes Conference opener Tuesday, Aug. 28.
Malone was assisted twice by Jack Thorkelson who also scored the lead-off goal for the Warriors who improved to 3-0 overall.
Noah Ebinger tallied a goal in the second half with Ian Aadland on the assist.
Noah Sundberg stopped all 13 shots he faced in about 65 minutes in net. Jude Hiltner finished in goal for the Warriors.
"Considering we played a hard game Monday (2-1 win at Buffalo) the kids really looked good coming off a hard-fought win," Warriors coach Tom Grausam said. "We moved around really well, our legs were underneath us. We were just confident.
"It was good for me because I got to see a lot of different players. I was able to sub a lot more tonight, get some other kids in there and see what they can do. They were just confident. We pretty much controlled the game."
Brainerd travels to Willmar Thursday, Aug. 30, for another CLC game.
"Thursday's game is going to be important," Grausam said. "I don't think we've beaten Willmar in a long time. Since I've been coaching (4 years), we haven't beaten them. Thursday will be a true test for us. Willmar's a fast team. They can move the ball really well. We'll see how well we can play against them on grass."
