Boys Soccer: Thorkelson's 4 goals lead Warriors' victory
ALEXANDRIA—Jack Thorkelson scored four goals and assisted on another as the Brainerd Warriors defeated the Alexandria Cardinals 7-1 in a Central Lakes Conference game Saturday, Sept. 8.
Nick Whiteman and Mason Malone each contributed a goal and two assists. Ben Kippes scored the other Brainerd goal.
"It was a nice win after a loss with Willmar," Warriors coach Tom Grausam said. "We got back on the winning track and a put a lot of goals in. We were passing well. With 20 mph winds, we kept the ball on the ground instead of going over the top. We were moving it in and out, passing it and making a lot of through balls.
"Mason and Jack have been our leaders with Nick right behind them. With those three leading the way, that's good. It was nice to see another player score. Ben comes out of the defensive backfield and kicked one in from about 30 feet. Everybody stepped up. It was a good team win."
