It's cold enough to crack trees in the Brainerd area. At 8 a.m. today the thermometer in Brainerd recorded a temperature of minus 35 degrees. Last summer's dry weather and the current cold spell can cause weakened trees to break.

Les Sellnow, editor of The Brainerd Daily Dispatch, will be flying to Washington, D.C., for a briefing session with President Carter. Sellnow is one of 30 news editors and directors from around the country who have been invited to the session.

Brainerd High School certainly has a basketball team and a coach this year working wonders. The writer saw them play the tall, chesty, post-graduate Tech High fellows of St. Cloud and the way the Brainerd crowd ran circles around the big boys was a caution.
