Brainerd Warrior gymnastics coach Dave Maras believes he has a dynamite team and he knew eventually it would explode. It finally happened when the Warriors recorded their best score of the season by defeating St. Cloud Apollo 140.95-121.35.

30 years ago (1979)

A 12-pound walleye was hooked at Gull Lake in 30 feet of water on a golden shiner minnow by Ted Schaefer, business associate of the Nisswa Red Owl.

40 years ago (1969)

William Olmsted was elected chairman of the Crow Wing County Board of Commissioners. He replaces Ed Heikkenen.

60 years ago (1949)

Twenty-three Brainerd girls will participate in the queen selecting contest at the Brainerd Theatre tonight. Three will be chosen to represent the city at the Brainerd district territorial Centennial Coronation Ball Jan. 22.

80 years ago (1929)

A.J. Smith of Brainerd was the first to pay his taxes this year. Lillian A. Brennemar, also of Brainerd, was second.
