The Minnesota House Commerce and Labor Committee, chaired by Rep. Joe Atkins, DFL-Inver Grove Heights, in partnership with Rep. John Ward, DFL-Brainerd, and the Brainerd Lakes Chamber, will host a listening session at 10 a.m. Jan. 29 at the Northland Arboretum in Baxter.

The committee oversees an array of items, but this session will focus only on issues affecting business. Topics of interest include insurance, (including whether to allow out-of-state companies to sell health insurance in Minnesota), banking and lending, consumer protection, jobs, unemployment, minimum wage, sick time, general business and business climate, and telecom including Internet, cell phone, cable TV and broadband access. The committee will share issues that come before the committee and then listen to input from the business community about these issues.

Businesses interested in participating in this meeting should contact Lisa Paxton, Brainerd Lakes Chamber chief executive officer, at 822-7111 or lpaxton@explorebrainerdlakes.com.
