WALKER - Cass County Engineer David Enblom obtained county board approval Tuesday to begin eminent domain condemnation proceedings against one property along County State Aid Highway 35 for a road construction easement.
All other owners along that road have given their approval for right-of -way easements. The road improvement is planned for four miles of CSAH 35 in May Township.
Cass County has agreed to assume ownership from the state of the road from Highway 371 into Ah-Gwah-Ching. The state will create a circle loop on Ah-Gwah-Ching property in 2010 before transferring ownership.
The commissioners approved changing the comprehensive plan to support locating all new and upgraded utility lines within road right-of-way or existing utility line right-of-way areas rather than running lines through new corridors.
They also approved a change to stipulate that sufficient right-of-way should be provided in planning new projects or works of improvement to accommodate all legal uses that may take place within the right-of-way.
Environmental Services Director John Sumption reported the planning commission has decided against addressing rentals of private residential properties at this time.
Commissioner Jim Demgen will represent the board at a 2 p.m. Thursday meeting at Nisswa Community Center to bring together the planning process for a micropolitan area for the Gull Lake chain of lakes.
