Heavy snow storm socks the state. Crow Wing County plows were out at 7 a.m. and expected to stay on the job until dark. By noon Saturday, Brainerd had received about 6 inches with more expected.

30 years ago (1979)

The ranks of the women's 600 bowling club has expanded with the announcement that Norma Randall logged a 620. Randall had games of 227 and 217 in her 620 score.

40 years ago (1969)

Though the snow is deep and the temperature cold, hardy Brainerd area residents still find ways to enjoy the outdoors. A group of youngsters enjoy a sleigh ride in the Whipple Lake area.

60 years ago (1949)

Brainerd greets the new year!

Lt. Ruth M. Engel of the Army Nurse Corps, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edwin L. Engel, arrived In Okinawa for an overseas tour of duty. Ruth graduated from Washington High School in 1938.

80 years ago (1929)

At the meeting of the Chamber of Commerce held last night, C.A. Ryan, prominent young attorney of the city was elected president of the civic organization.

100 years ago (1909)

Harry Purdy came from up north yesterday and commenced work this morning for the O'Brien Mercantile Co.
