Registration open for Second City improv workshops Theater shorts
Wanted: Class clowns, budding stars, potential comedians and anyone who ever dreamed of being an actor.
The Second City improvisational comedy troupe from Chicago will perform "One Nation Under Blog" Jan. 24 at Central Lakes College, and the troupe will conduct two improv workshops while in town - from 7-9 p.m. Jan. 23 and 1-3 p.m. Jan. 24 at the college.
The fee is $75 for one workshop or $125 for both; the registration deadline is Jan. 20. Students must be 16 or older and enrollment is limited to 15 students per session.
The workshops will cover basic improvisation techniques, characterization, scene-building, physicality and other tools of comedic acting. The workshops will be intensive, hands-on experiences.

CLC to launch Senior Readers Theatre
The Central Lakes College Theatre Department will hold an informational meeting about the new Senior Readers Theatre at 7 p.m. Jan. 17 in the Dryden Theatre on the Brainerd campus.
The program is designed for adults 50 and older. No previous theater experience is necessary.
The first production, a staged reading of the late Hal Anderson's book "Hiking with Hal," will be in March. "Hiking with Hal" is a collection of newspaper columns published for 35 years in the Dispatch in which Anderson reflects on the beauty of nature in the lake country.
The book was edited by Anderson's wife Doris and published in 2006.
