In Brown's upbringing in Iowa there was no electricity or running water. She was exposed to traditional and rural folk music through her father, two-time Grammy nominee Greg Brown.
By her early 20s, Brown had gained a local reputation as a gifted performer. Her 2002 self-titled debut album earned good reviews, as did the 2003 release "I Never Told." Bo Ramsey co-produced Brown's "In The Cool" in 2005, and she followed with "Remember the Sun" last year.
Brown has collaborated with artists such as Calexico, The Pines, The Diplomats of Solid Sound, Iris Dement and her father.
