LOCAL BRIEFS 'Dr. King's Dream' to be performed in Brainerd
"Dr. King's Dream," a play about the life and teachings of Martin Luther King Jr., will be performed at 7 p.m. Jan. 25 at Central Lakes College.
The performance is by the Mixed Blood Theatre of Minneapolis and is sponsored by the Crow Wing County Human Rights Commission.
The play is a solo performance by Warren C. Bowles, portraying the life and career of King, including King's thoughts, opinions and his beloved, "I Have a Dream" speech.
The 45-minute performance will take place at the Chalberg Theatre at Central Lakes College, Brainerd campus. It is free and open to the public.
The human rights commission was able to sponsor the performance with a grant received from the Bremer Foundation.

Olson co-authors health care bill in state Senate
Sen. Mary Olson, DFL-Bemidji, has co-authored a bill which she said is designed to expand the number of insured, eliminate unnecessary administrative costs and ensure health care insurance customers benefit from those savings.
In addition, Olson is chief author of two bills included in the Senate DFL's health care package. The first bill would eliminate MinnesotaCare premiums for members of the military and their families for 12 months after discharge. The second bill Olson is the chief author of would remove the employer-subsidized insurance barrier and requirement of no other insurance for four months for children.
Olson, a U.S. Air Force veteran and mother of an Army National Guard member, said the expansion of eligibility requirements will provide coverage for an estimated 20,000 people.
Converse selected as 4-H coordinator
Nathan Converse of rural Staples has been selected as the 4-H coordinator for Crow Wing County. He started his duties Jan. 2.
As coordinator Converse will be responsible for working with the 13 4-H clubs in the county plus provide the overall coordination of the 4-H judging and other 4-H activities at the Crow Wing County Fair.
Converse was the 4-H coordinator for Aitkin County before being named coordinator for Crow Wing County. He and his wife, JodyLynn Hoting, have two sons, Colton and Dustin.

Klobuchar to visit Little Falls, Breezy Point on Saturday
Sen. Amy Klobuchar, D-Minn., will begin to fulfill her pledge to visit all 87 counties in Minnesota at least once every year while serving as U.S. senator with stops Saturday in Little Falls and Breezy Point.
She'll visit with area residents at the Royal Cafe, 120 West Broadway St., in Little Falls at 9:30 a.m. Saturday.
Klobuchar will speak at noon Saturday at the Pheasants Forever Minnesota State Convention in the Minnesota Room at the Breezy Point Resort Convention Center.
