Power being restored in Pequot/Nisswa area after morning outage
Minnesota Power crews were working to restore power to approximately 100 customers Tuesday morning in the Pequot Lakes and Nisswa areas as temperatures dropped to minus 28 degrees at 9:30 a.m.
The outage began at 4 a.m. and affected about 2,400 customers as the result of problems with a feeder in the Pequot Lakes area, Amy Rutledge, communications manager for Minnesota Power, said. Power was restored to the majority of those customers at about 6 a.m., with another large group having its power restored at about 6:35 a.m.
Rutledge said residents on Poplar Avenue in the Pequot Lakes area have experienced power going in and out and that is likely to continue for a period of time.
At this time, she said, power officials are not certain what caused the problem although it could be related to the extreme cold.
"The equipment is pretty stiff right now," she said. "We're not sure what caused it."
