LOCAL BRIEFS Early Childhood Investment forum set
"The Early Childhood Investment," a free public forum at Central Lakes College Thursday, will examine the educational and economic benefits of early childhood education.
Rob Grunewald of the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis is the featured speaker for the event from noon to 1:30 p.m. Thursday in the Dryden Theatre on the Brainerd campus. It is hosted by the Gordon Rosenmeier Center for State and Local Government.
Panelists for the forum will include Jerry Walseth, Brainerd School District superintendent; Beth Swenson, district training, the Literacy Collaborative; and Sgt. Troy Schreifels, Brainerd Police Department.
The forum starts after an 11:30 a.m. coffee and conversation time with introductions and background at 11:55 a.m. Grunewald's presentation will be from noon until 12:45 p.m. The panelists will respond to Grunewald's presentation from 12:45-1:15 p.m., at which time the audience will be invited to participate.
Week proclaimed for Brainerd Jaycees
Brainerd Mayor James Wallin proclaimed Jan. 14-Jan. 21 as Brainerd Jaycees Week in Brainerd in conjunction with Saturday's $150,000 Ice Fishing Extravaganza, which to date has earned about $2 million for the Confidence Learning Center.
