Land department moves into new digs
Cass County Correspondent WALKER - Cass County Land Department began moving Friday into the new building at Backus, according to Land Commissioner Norm Moody.
Tuesday, the county board approved a certificate of substantial completion for the building, paving the way for occupancy.
In addition to the land department, Cass County Economic Development Corp. will move into that building this month, transferring its offices from the Community Resource building in Pine River.
Cass County Planning Director Paul Fairbanks told the board Tuesday the county's planning commission and board of adjustment will alternate meetings between the Walker courthouse and the Backus public meeting room.
Gail Leverson, Cass County Economic Development Corp. consultant, told the county board Tuesday that revolving loan funds businesses in Walker and Longville already have drawn perspective new businesses from outside the county.
In 2006, Leverson helped 13 businesses complete expansions in the county or begin new businesses. In the last three years, she helped 29 businesses to create 333 new jobs and bring $47,514,947 in investment capital to Cass County.
