Commissioners set meeting slate
Cass County Correspondent WALKER - Cass County commissioners Tuesday set the summer meeting schedule for locations around the county and confirmed they will attend four special meetings in the next two weeks.
The commissioners will meet with Leech Lake Tribal Council at 12:30 p.m. Jan. 23 at Northern Lights Convention Center south of Walker. They will conduct their annual planning retreat from 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Jan. 26 at the new land department building in Backus.
Most commissioners plan to attend a Cass County extension meeting at 7 p.m. Jan. 29 at Riverview Church in Pine River. The board will host a joint meeting with Crow Wing County at 9:30 a.m. Feb. 1 at the courthouse in Brainerd.
Summer Cass County Board meetings will be May 15, Sylvan Town Hall; June 19, Pine River Town Hall; July 17, Hiram Town Hall; Aug. 21, Wabedo Town Hall; and Sept. 18, Pike Bay Town Hall. Meetings will begin at 6 p.m.
If any of the town halls will be unavailable those dates, another location in that township will be selected. The board expects to conduct public hearings during those meetings on some roads within each township, a preliminary step toward transferring the roads from county to township ownership and management.
If a road is transferred after public hearing, the county would bring each road to town road specifications and maintain it for two years after the county board authorizes the transfer, according to County Engineer David Enblom.
