PLHS to stage 'Women of Troy' THEATER
PEQUOT LAKES - The Pequot Lakes High School theater program will present a one-act adaptation of Euripides' drama, "The Women of Troy," at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in the school auditorium.
Admission is free; donations are welcome.
The play was adapted by David Grote. Daren Blanck is the director. The play will compete in the subsection one-act festival Saturday in Wadena.
"The Women of Troy" was written in the Fourth Century B.C. and focuses on the last surviving Trojans of a long war as they await the Greeks to decide their fate. Euripides, one of the best known of the ancient Greek dramatists, is noted for portraying the victims of war rather than its great heroes.
Senior Kayla Lenz, who has been recognized twice as a starred performer in one-act competition, plays Andromache, the widow of Trojan Prince Hector. Senior Kjerstin Olson plays Helen, the face who launched a thousand ships. Junior Kelsey Wulf, plays Hecuba, the queen of defeated Troy.
Juniors Katie Finn and Madison Engen are part of the chorus of women. Sophomore Charlie Cook plays Talthybius, the everyman soldier torn between duty and compassion.
Other actors include Jacob Dale, Becky Gagne, Cody Espeseth, Laura Janowiec, Rachel Peterson, Vanessa Buchite, Marcia Stanton, Kathryn Moehling, Erika Tweed, Chad Ellertson and Eric Kloster. The technical crew includes Jenny Williams, Ryan Barrett and Jenny Moon.
