LOCAL BRIEFS 20th annual Midwinter
Festival planned in Palisade
PALISADE - The 20th annual Midwinter Festival is planned in Palisade with events from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Feb. 2.
Food and games are planned all day. A parade is scheduled at 2 p.m. with a Midwinter Snow Idol Contest at the fire hall for contestants willing to show their musical talents. Contestants will be judged for stage personality and vocal ability. Fireworks are at 6 p.m.
Public hearing planned in Crosslake
CROSSLAKE - The Crosslake City Council will have a public hearing at 6 p.m. Feb. 11 at city hall.
Council members will hear an appeal from Steven and Rebecca Zilka. The Zilkas area appealing the decision of the Planning and Zoning Commission to deny an after-the-fact variance to construct a home about 4.7 feet closer to the bluff impact zone than the structure it is replacing versus the required 30-foot setback in the Residential 3, Medium Density Residential zoning district.

Members of the Morrison County Board of Commissioners, either as a board or individually, will attend the following meetings during the week of Jan. 27 to Feb. 2:

6 p.m. Tuesday - Recovery Celebration, Meeting Room No. 1, Government Center, Little Falls.

10 a.m. Wednesday - Land Use Ordinance review meeting, Meeting Room No. 3, Government Center, Little Falls.
8:30 a.m. Thursday - County Board Planning Session, County Board Room, Government Center, Little Falls.
8:30 a.m. Friday - TSWAC (Solid Waste) Committee meeting, Morrison County County Landfill, Little Falls.
Mayor proclaims Brainerd Jaycees week
Brainerd Mayor James Wallin proclaimed the week of Jan 20-27 as Brainerd Jaycees Week and urged citizens to recognize the importance of community service and the value of the Jaycees as a leadership organization for young adults.
The Jaycees have raised up to $2 million for the Confidence Learning Center and other non-profits through their efforts with its $150,000 Ice Fishing Extravaganza.
Little Falls Chamber hosts state lawmakers on Wednesday
LITTLE FALLS - The Little Falls Chamber of Commerce has invited Rep. Al Doty, DFL-Royalton, and Sen. Paul Koering, R-Fort Ripley, to discuss the upcoming legislative session.
The meeting will be from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Little Falls City Hall at 100 Seventh Ave. NE.
Those attending may direct questions and comments to the two lawmakers. The session also will be broadcast on local cable access channel 6 in Little Falls and channel 12 in Pierz.
