Brainerd firefighters doused a burning garage Sunday night at a residence on Clearwater Road in Baxter. The unattached garage, with two cars inside, was a complete loss. Aside from melted siding on its northeast side, the house, owned by Steve Janousek, was spared from the fire. The Janousek family was able to get out of their home without injury. The fire also scorched a large tree hanging over the garage. The nearby house, however, was not damaged except for melted siding along the east and north sides closest to the garage.
Assistant Fire Chief Kevin Stunek said the cause of the fire wasn't immediately known Sunday night. He said the Janousek family was in their house when a passerby knocked on their door and told them their garage was on fire. No one was injured in the fire.
Brainerd firefighters had the fire out by 8 p.m. Utility crews were at the fire to check power and gas lines. Also assisting was North Ambulance and the Baxter Police Department.
