20 years ago (1987)
Dave and Mary Ahrendt of rural Hackensack make a dynamic woodcarving duo. Dave did the carving and Mary the painting on a ring necked pheasant that won first place in its category at a wood carving contest in Michigan last year.
30 years ago (1977)
A hot air balloon will be featured in Nisswa this weekend as part of the Nisswa Jubilee, 1977 Celebrity March of Dimes Snowmobile Marathon. The balloon may be flown either on Saturday or Sunday.
40 years ago (1967)
Despite the heavy snow this year, Brainerd's new residential snow plowing system seems to be working out well. North-south streets are plowed the first day after a snowstorm and east-west streets are plowed the second day.
60 years ago (1947)
Conditions equaling those existing at the Riverside grade school were pointed out during a survey of the Garfield grade school. Petitions signed by residents of the school areas urging the erecting of new schools are now before the Brainerd Board of Education.
80 years ago (1927)
The Brainerd Dispatch has received a letter from the manager of Sousa's band, asking for the data concerning Brainerd, which shows that the band has started to map out the tour for the season and may include Brainerd in its itinerary.
100 years ago (1907)
The coal situation here is now the worst of the season. The local dealers have not a pound. The wood situation, was apparently a little easier just before the blizzard. The blizzard, however, has blocked both sources of supply.
