Warriors slip past Willmar BOYS' SWIMMING
WILLMAR - In a back and forth, see-saw swimming and diving meet, the Brainerd Warriors slipped past the Willmar Cardinals 98-87 in Central Lakes Conference action Thursday.
"It was a strange meet," Warriors coach John Zemke said. "We went 1-2-3 in diving and in the 500 (freestyle) and Willmar goes 1-2-3 in the 50 freestyle. We had a nice all-around effort and we came out on top so that was the most important thing."
With the meet coming down to the final event, Brainerd's team of Andrew Goll, Alek Rudstrom, Mike Ruen and Jared Anderson teamed up to capture the 400 freestyle relay. Brainerd also took third in the event to earn 10 points and seal the victory.
Brainerd's Jared Anderson won the 200 individual medley in 1:55.69 and swam to a 1:06.00 time to take the 100 breaststroke.
Also picking up wins for the Warriors were Jake Larson (diving), Goll (500 freestyle), Michael Brekken (100 backstroke).
"We really spread things around and swam well as a team," Zemke said. "Jonathon Warling also had a nice meet for a freshman."
