Looks like six more weeks of winter
Eagle View Elementary School kindergartner Sam Moerbitz (left) received "mud in a cup," or pudding with a gummy worm on top, from paraprofessional Sharon Meister Thursday as school guest, Groundhog (also known as paraprofessional Kristen Gangl), looked on in the school cafeteria. Eagle View students in Pequot Lakes celebrated Groundhog Day throughout the day, with a parade, a groundhog program with a groundhog-calling contest and more. Other lunch offerings included groundhog on a stick, or corn dogs, and gnawing roots with shadow sauce, or carrots. The annual Groundhog Day festivities are the brainchild of Eagle View fourth-grade teacher Jim Minerich, who each year organizes a Groundhog Day committee that plans the day's events. Eagle View's groundhog, as did Punxsutawney Phil, did see her shadow Thursday, signaling six more weeks of winter. Brainerd Dispatch/Jodie Tweed
