Lobeck to meet with area Shrine Club Monday
Charles Lobeck, Shriners Hospital administrator in Minneapolis, will meet with the Brainerd area Aadzuhman Shrine Club Monday during its monthly luncheon meeting in Brainerd.
The 200-member Brainerd area club recently helped arrange a $100,000 donation to the hospital. The contribution will be used to buy special equipment for treating orthopedic problems in children. The Shrine Club works with about 100 children from this area who are benefiting from free care provided by the Twin Cities unit.
Lobeck, a chief surgeon, an assistant chief surgeon and other key members at the hospital were brought in to the Midwest facility recently. Since arriving, there has been a 53 percent increase in new patients and a 31 percent increase in patient applications. The Twin Cities unit is part of a 22-hospital network across the nation.
While in Brainerd, Lobeck will attend a club board meeting, a membership meeting and a visit with the Shrine Auxiliary. The auxiliary, friends of Shriners Hospitals, meets for lunch in the Masonic Hall.
Aadzuhman Shrine Club members conduct a yearly schedule of fund-raising for the hospitals. Shriners visit businesses and individuals from 17 area communities each year for their tax-deductible donations. In addition to major contributions, the club donated $50,000 to the effort in 2005. The club has averaged less than 5 percent cost of administering the fund drive since it began the project in 1989.
