CAREER
Kron moves to Midwest Bank
BAXTER - Jim Kron joined Midwest Bank in Baxter as vice president, commercial lending.
Kron joined Midwest Bank on Jan. 22.
Kron has been involved in commercial lending in the Brainerd/Baxter area for more than 14 years and has more than 26 years of banking experience. Kron was most recently with American National Bank in commercial lending in the Baxter office.
Before working at American National, Kron was a vice president of lending with Northern National Bank. He has experience in SBA and other economic and community development lending.
Kron received his bachelor's degree in finance and management from St. Cloud State University.
Midwest Bank President Bryan Rude identified Kron's knowledge of the local business community and his commercial lending experience as assets. Midwest Bank is a $260 million bank.
Meyer joins American National Bank
Tom Meyer, Baxter, joined American National Bank of Minnesota as assistant to the chief financial officer.
His primary duties will include the preparation of various financial reports and analysis of financial data for the bank.
Meyer is a graduate of Crosby-Ironton High School, Brainerd Community College and he has a bachelor's degree in accounting from St. Cloud State University. Before joining the bank, he was employed at Grand Casino Mille Lacs as a financial analyst.
YMCA instructors attend training
Six group fitness instructors from the Brainerd Family YMCA recently attended training and became certified YogaStretch instructors for the SilverSneakers program.
SilverSneakers is the nation's leading fitness program designed exclusively for older adults.
YogaStretch is taught from a seated and standing position to enhance the flow and energy created in combination with restorative breathing exercises.
Instructors who went through the training are: Kris Peterson, Heidi Rudstrom, Natalie Saatoff, Cassy Seymour, Lynn Shepherd and Traci Staples.
Carley joins Select Therapy
BAXTER - Physical therapist Marc Carley joined Select Therapy, an outpatient physical therapy clinic treating conditions ranging from chronic headaches and back pain to sports injuries and surgeries, in Baxter.
Carley has a doctorate of physical therapy from the University of Minnesota and is a certified athletic trainer. He has more than 10 years of experience in athletic training and physical therapy, including work as an instructor to student athletic trainers at Carleton College and six years as an athletic trainer at St. Olaf College.
In addition to athletic rehabilitation, Carley specializes in TMJ/orofacial neck pain and disorders of the extremities.
Smith gains AE2S promotion
Sheryl Smith was promoted to chief administrative officer at Advanced Engineering and Environmental Services Inc., which has offices in Brainerd.
Smith will be responsible for managing all corporate support services for AE2S, including marketing/business development, financial, human resources and administrative support. She will serve on the AE2S executive committee.
Smith has a bachelor's degree in accounting and a master' degree in business administration from the University of North Dakota. She has more than 15 years in business development and project planning experience including business startup, project coordination, operations and financial analysis.
Previously, she served as the business development director of AE2S.
Lanz gains certification
Cara Lanz, human resource director at Madden's on Gull Lake, recently completed course work through the society of human resources and became certified as a senior professional in human resources.
This certification distinguishes her among her peers and highlights her commitment to her career as a human resources professional. This industry-recognized credential provides her with a comprehensive overview of the most up-to-date human resources practices.
Ring receives high marks
Jerry Ring, personal financial adviser with Ameriprise Financial, received high marks from his clients in the Ameriprise Financial adviser annual client satisfaction survey.
Ring ranked in the top 37 percent of 2,789 participating advisers who scored 90 or higher (out of a possible 100) based on two key ratings - clients' overall satisfaction and the amount of proactive contact the client received.
The survey, where clients may rate advisers in nine areas, is conducted by an independent research organization.

Deerwood plant helps secure grant
DEERWOOD - The Weyerhaeuser Company Foundation announced a $30,000 grant to the Twin Cities Hope Lodge in Minneapolis.
The Weyerhaeuser Company Deerwood Plant Foundation Committee was instrumental in securing this grant.
The University of Minnesota Cancer Center in partnership with the University Medical Center-Fairview and the American Cancer Society, is establishing the Twin Cities Hope Lodge - a home away from home that will provide much-needed accommodations for adult cancer patients traveling to the Twin Cities to undergo cancer treatment.
