WHAT'S DOING Lakes and Woods Horticultural Club to meet
AITKIN - Lakes and Woods Horticultural Club will meet at 7 p.m. Monday at the Mille Lacs Energy Cooperative building, east of the intersection of Highways 169-210 in downtown Aitkin. "Apples For Our Area" will be presented by Dave Gilbertson. People interested in growing apples and area gardeners are welcome to attend this special meeting. Hostesses are Arlene Freeman and Kathy Sydnes.
Garrison Seniors Club to meet
GARRISON - The Garrison Seniors Club meets at noon Tuesday at the City of Garrison Building on Central Street, four blocks west of the Walleye concourse. Mike Hagen, CEO of Aitkin's Riverwood Health Care, will tell us about their new facility, now being constructed in the city of Garrison, which is scheduled to open this spring. Members are reminded to bring a food item to share and their own plates, cups and eating utensils. Area residents age 55-plus may become 2007 members by paying the annual $5 per person membership fee.
Jerry Walseth to speak on 'Our Schools, Our Future'
The League of Women Voters of the Brainerd Lakes Area presents Superintendent Jerry Walseth at noon Thursday at the Brainerd Public Library. Superintendent Walseth will discuss his district's long-range plan strategy and what the community can do to ensure a quality, world-class education is made available to all students.
Second Thursday planned
BAXTER - Prairie Bay Grill and Cashwise Liquors presents "Second Thursday" wine and hors d'oeuvres tasting event to benefit the Brainerd Public Library from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Thursday at Prairie Bay in Baxter.
A fully tax-deductible minimum donation of $15 will be taken at the door. All proceeds go directly to the Brainerd Public Library.

Moose Lodge activities scheduled
Breakfast will be served from 9 a.m. to noon Sunday at the Moose Lodge in Brainerd. Order from the menu. There will be a bake sale held with the breakfast. Texas Hold 'Em will be played at 6:30 p.m. Monday, cribbage at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, bar bingo at 6 p.m. Wednesday and Friday.
Brainerd Lakes Area Early Childhood Coalition to meet
The Brainerd Lakes Area Early Childhood Coalition will meet at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Early Care and Education Center at Central Lakes College. A light dinner will be provided.

Senior dances will be 2-5 p.m. Sunday at Staples with music by Country Time; 1-4 p.m. Monday at McGregor with music by Roman and Don; 2-5 p.m. Wednesday at Brainerd Eagles with music by Jerry B.; and 5:30 p.m. Saturday at Waukenabo for a Valentine dinner and dance. Music by The Buckaneers.
Shriners to meet
The Shriners will meet for soup and sandwich at noon Monday at the club room in Brainerd. Board meeting will be 10:30 a.m.
Potlatch Retirees to meet
Potlatch Retirees will meet at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Lakes Area Senior Activity Center for cards and lunch.
