FRESH COAT
First sizeable snowfall since early December expected on Monday
The first chance for significant snow since early December is expected in the Brainerd area Monday.

The National Weather Service in Duluth issued a snow advisory until midnight Monday, with a total accumulation of 3-6 inches expected. Included in the advisory are Aitkin, southern Cass, Crow Wing, Mille Lacs, Morrison and Todd counties.

A snow advisory means that periods of snow will cause travel difficulties and motorists are asked to use caution when driving because of snow-covered roads and limited visibility.

Steve Wannebo, meteorological technician with the National Weather Service in Duluth, said as of Sunday night the weather service wasn't forecasting a severe winter storm, but that could change depending on how the system tracks.

"This is our best guess right now," Wannebo said. "Things could change. I think we'll have a better idea (Monday) morning."

There's a slight chance of snow Monday morning and heavier snowfall expected, between 2-5 inches, Monday afternoon. Temperatures will be 28-33 degrees.

Light snow is expected to continue Monday night, with an additional inch of accumulation possible. There's also a 30 percent chance of snow on Tuesday afternoon, Wednesday night and Thursday afternoon. Wind chill readings of 10 below to 20 below are possible Tuesday night.
