A hot air balloon spectacular, sponsored by the Mille Lacs PAR Association will kick off this year's Mille Lacs Area Crystal Carnival, the lake-wide winter extravaganza.
30 years ago (1978)
A huge crowd gave a standing ovation to all the nominees for the All-Star, All-Time Warrior basketball team from 1925 through 1975 last night. The ceremonies were carried on at half-time during the game between Brainerd and Little Falls.
40 years ago (1968)
All but five of the 45 taxing districts in Crow Wing County have been advised by the state commissioner of taxation to raise their valuation of real estate by the amount of 25 to 40 percent this year.
60 years ago (1948)
Brainerd was assured of a direct air mail service as soon as the new Brainerd-Crow Wing County airport is complete according to a letter Postmaster Dunn received.

Brainerd is to have a business college in the near future. The school will be opened the second day of March. The school here will be a branch of the National Business College of Minneapolis.
