Council to let panelists decide whether they want to be televised Matter of televising meetings left to each city commission individually Staff Writer The decision to televise Brainerd city commission meetings will be left to the members of each commission.
The Brainerd City Council Monday referred the issue of televised meetings to the Planning Commission, the Parks and Recreation Board and the Public Utilities Commission for discussion.
Currently, only council meetings are televised on Charter Communications Channel 8.
In making the motion to refer the issue, council member Mary Koep recommended, "all three be asked to discuss the issue of televising (the committee) meetings and get back to council so our actions would respect their concerns."
Before the council's vote, Planning Commission Chairman Bob Sherman asked that his commission be able to make the decision because as appointed volunteers they should have some input into the process.
Council member Bob Olson said he also was prepared to make a motion that the city council recommend the Planning Commission televise its meetings. He said it would be a mistake if the Planning Commission didn't choose to televise their meetings. He also said Brainerd residents would appreciate having the meetings televised.
"I'm going to urge the three boards strongly consider televising," their meetings Olson said.
