Cadwell runs for House
Doug Cadwell, an electrician and firefighter from rural Pine River, has announced his candidacy for the DFL endorsement for the District 4B House seat.

Cadwell, 42, said he wants to move both political parties closer to the middle and pass legislation that will help Minnesotans. He said he'll stress the need to find renewable energy, possibly giving tax breaks or low-interest loans to people who will invest in new technology.

Education also will be an important issue, Cadwell said.

"With globalization we have to have a well-educated work force," Cadwell said. "I think we're slipping behind. We've got to step out and lead the world and I think Minnesota is the place to start."

Cadwell, who joins Ron Berry of Walker in the race for the DFL endorsement for the seat held by Rep. Larry Howes, R-Walker, said he'll abide by the endorsement. Berry made a similar pledge regarding the endorsement when he announced his candidacy last month.

The rural Pine River electrician said he's committed to public service and he would like to eliminate the political fighting that the extremes of both parties often foster. This is his first run for public office.

He and his wife, Della, have two children, Andrew, 10, and Jason, 6. He's a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 242.
