Gov. Rudy Perpich joined a coffee group this morning at the Front Street Cafe as part of his fourth stop in a seven-day tour of outstate Minnesota.

George Kriha, city engineer, told the council that the downtown improvement project will cost an estimated one million dollars and asked for some guidance in a couple of areas in preparing his feasibility report.

40 years ago (1966)

The building housing the Brainerd fire station is in poor condition, the city council was told. The walls are bowing out and other problems make the life of the building a question mark.

60 years ago (1946)

All bus and train service in and out of Brainerd was moving on schedule today after more than 24 hours of no bus service due to the storm which swept the Midwestern states in the past 48 hours.

80 years ago (1926)

M.D. Coty, brakeman on the Brainerd-Ironton run, reports having seen four robins near the Mahoming mine. Verily, spring hath come despite the groundhog.

100 years ago (1906)

Mr. and Mrs. F.A. Farrar delightfully entertained a company of friends on Saturday evening at their home. Refreshments were served, "500" was the diversion of the evening.
