Crosslake man dies in snowmobile accident

CROSSLAKE - A Crosslake man died early Sunday morning when he collided with a tree hanging out over the ice on Cross Lake.

Stephen Zilka, 46, was alone on the sled when he suffered head injuries in the crash. Law officers were alerted to the scene by a passer-by at 12:14 a.m. Sunday. Zilka was pronounced dead at the scene by Crosslake Police.

The accident took place near 12937 County Road 16 near the Ye Olde Wharf Bar and Restaurant in Crosslake. The accident is currently under the investigation by the Crow Wing County Sheriff's Department.

Agencies assisting at the scene were Crosslake Police. Breezy Point Police, Crosslake Fire Department and North Ambulance.
