LOCAL BRIEFS Ward eyes chemical dependency center
ST. PAUL - Rep. John Ward, DFL-Brainerd, testified before House Health Care and Human Services Division Wednesday on behalf of his proposal to bring Teen Challenge, a long-term residential chemical dependency treatment center to Brainerd.
Ward was joined by Rev. Rich Scherber, executive director of Teen Challenge, and several current and past clients of the program. The lawmaker is proposing the facility be opened in the former Brainerd Regional Human Services Center.
"We have a methamphetamine epidemic that needs to be addressed and we are looking for health and human service programs for the regional treatment center," he said. "This proposal helps meet both of those needs."
The proposal was held over for possible inclusion in the final Omnibus Health Care and Human Services Bill.
