Oberstar to visit Mille Lacs wastewater treatment plant
GARRISON - Rep. Jim Oberstar, D-Minn., will visit the Mille Lacs wastewater treatment plant in Garrison on Sunday afternoon.
The facility, which Oberstar visited in 2004 before its opening, has grown to serve nearly 5,000 residents and has the capacity to serve 10,000 residents, according to a spokesperson for the plant.
The Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe built the plant and partners with the Garrison Kathio West Mille Lacs Lake Sanitary District to provide wastewater treatment services to area residents.
Other area officials who were invited to attend the event were Garrison Mayor John Schley, members of the sanitary district, Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe Chief Executive Melanie Benjamin and other Mille Lacs Band officials.
