Clipper pays brief visit to lakes area
Staff Writer Mild weather - for February, at least - will greet revelers this weekend at the Nisswa Jubilee and the 27th annual International Eelpout Festival in Walker.
Despite a forecast that called for a cold front to usher in behind Thursday's snow, the weather won't be too menacing with high temperatures Friday through Sunday expected to be 20-25 degrees and low temperatures between 5-10 degrees.
Still, the area is in the midst of a little Canadian clipper, said Sam Standfield, weather service specialist with the National Weather Service in Duluth.
"It's not quite as cold, but then again it wasn't really forecasted to be significantly colder, just somewhat colder than normal," Standfield said.
But normal, or even a little above normal, is what the Brainerd area will get. Normal high temperatures for this time of year are usually in the lower 20s, Standfield said, and low temperatures are usually in the single digits.
After reaching temperatures as high as 30 degrees Tuesday, the real cold should be arriving by the end of next week with high temperatures in the teens and low temperatures at or below zero, Standfield said.
"But hopefully we can push that back a week, too," Standfield said with a laugh.
Between now and then area residents will be able to enjoy the fresh blanket of snow that fell Thursday. Little Falls received 3 inches and Brainerd, Pillager, Lake Shore and Nisswa received 2 inches, according to the National Weather Service in Duluth. A slight chance of snow remains in the forecast for Friday and Saturday.
