CAPITOL NOTES
Sams expects to return to Capitol office Monday
Sen. Dallas Sams, speaking from his hospital bed in St. Paul, said Thursday he was "feeling good." He said he expected to be released from United Hospital Friday and hoped to be back at his Capitol office by Monday.

The Staples DFLer said doctors were still trying to pinpoint why he blacked out Monday afternoon in his office and had to be taken by ambulance to the hospital. He said doctors have ruled out any ailment related to the heart but still planned to have him undergo tests as an outpatient.

He estimated he was unconscious for about 20 minutes on Monday and didn't really come to until he was in the emergency room. Sams said his critical skills, functions, sensitivity and muscle strength were normal.

"I feel great," he said.

While he has kept in touch with legislators and staff members Sams said he realized his episode was serious enough that he shouldn't try to rush back.

"You've got to take care of yourself first," he said.
