Ward announces wastewater loan approved for Brainerd
LOCAL BRIEFS
Rep. John Ward, DFL-Brainerd, announced last week that the Minnesota Public Facilities Authority approved a financing package for Brainerd that will help with plans to expand and upgrade the existing wastewater treatment plant.

Brainerd Public Utilities Superintendent Tom Phelps said the money will reimburse the city for up-front money it had spent for plans and designs.

The financial package consists of a $2 million low interest loan from the Clean Water Revolving Fund.

"Brainerd taxpayers will save over $152,000 in interest because of this award," Ward said in a statement.

Phelps said he hopes the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency will issue the city a permit in May or June. Construction could begin soon after that point, he said.
