Two hundred tons of hay purchased by the Crow Wing County branches of Aid Association for Lutherans will be distributed free to farmers of the county.

A peanut-counting contest is being sponsored by Brainerd's downtown merchants to promote Presidents Day specials. Mall bucks drawing is being sponsored by the mall merchants.

40 years ago (1968)

Three Washington High School seniors have been named winners of scholarships. Susan Anderson of Augsburg, Mary Mass of Augsburg and Susan Larson of St. Olaf College.

60 years ago (1948)

Postmaster Joseph Dunn today issued a warning that a new type of chain letter has appeared in Brainerd. All chain letters, he warned, are barred from the mails under postal laws and regulations.

80 years ago (1928)

Ambitious plans of friends of the Brainerd boys concert band are to enlarge the organization to one of 60 members. The present membership is 35. Brainerd parents should take advantage of the opportunities offered to gain a musical education for their children and should encourage their boys to join the band.

Great pressure is being brought to bear on officials of the Minnesota and International and Northern Pacific railways for the purpose of securing the putting on of a night passenger train between International Falls and St. Paul.
