TV listed as top information source SOCIAL CAPITAL | A closer look
TV anyone?
Five in 10 Brainerd lakes area residents agree TV is an important source of entertainment.
"Television is the primary form of entertainment for two in 10 residents and quite important to another three in 10. Television is the top source of information for area households, although newspaper is not far behind," the capital survey found.
As an information source, women tend to favor television and newspaper more than men. Men are more likely than women to name the radio.
Lakes area residents and central Minnesotans report television is more important to them than people in the national and regional surveys reported. Single people are more likely to rely on TV as a primary form of entertainment.

Television is the most used media at 31 percent followed by newspaper at 24 percent, Internet at 19 percent and radio at 18 percent. Talking to friends and neighbors was listed at 5 percent.
Students surveyed at Central Lakes College overwhelmingly gained their information from the Internet. After a big dropoff, the students gleaned information from television, closely followed by radio before they listed newspapers and talking to friends/neighbors in a fourth place tie.
People in the Cuyuna Range region listed television at the top for places to get information. Crosslake named newspapers more often as the top source. Radio was slightly ahead in the Staples/Motley area.
Residents with higher incomes are less likely to list television as a main form of entertainment. Residents in the higher income category are more likely to use the newspaper and/or Internet to gather information.
Older residents use television and newpapers as important sources of information. Those 54 and younger more often name radio and Internet as sources. Families with children are more likely to list the Internet as a primary source of information.
