Area organizations receive grants
LITTLE FALLS - The Initiative Foundation recently awarded 24 community grants totaling $114,900.
The following area organizations were selected:
¥ Cass County Economic Development Corp., Pine River, strategic planning for 2007, $1,900, to support countywide planning for economic development.
¥ Central Lakes College Small Business Development Center, Brainerd, small business counseling, $10,000, to provide planning and technical assistance to an estimated 50 central Minnesota small businesses in 2007.
¥ Crow Wing County, Brainerd, demonstration rain gardens, $2,500, to support rain garden education and installation to manage stormwater runoff and improve water quality.
¥ Friends of Crane Meadows, Little Falls, Habitat Day 2007, $2,500, to support Habitat Day 2007 activities, a volunteer supported celebration that highlights the natural resources and learning opportunities at the Crane Meadows National Wildlife Refuge.
¥ Morrison County United Way, Little Falls, imagination library project, $3,000, to provide books for children up to age 5, to increase early childhood literacy and family involvement.
¥ Partners for Quality Education, Staples, downtown revitalization, $10,000, to implement a revitalization plan for downtown Staples.
¥ St. Gabriel's Hospital, Little Falls, Elder Network Enhancement Initiative, $2,000, to help seniors fight isolation and remain independent in their homes by reimbursing volunteers for mileage expenses.
Several communities have been selected to participate in the next round of Healthy Communities Partnership training set to begin on March 6. The list includes Hackensack and Onamia. HCP provides leadership training, staff assistance and grants to volunteer leadership teams as they guide local efforts to create citizen-driven plans for the future of their communities.
The Staples Community Foundation, a component fund of the Initiative Foundation, announced a $2,000 grant to Partners for Quality Education, Staples, speakers and workshop series for youth, to support the Stomping Grounds' speaker and workshop series for youth. Contact: Pam Collins.
The Initiative Foundation seeks projects that strengthen central Minnesota communities and address barriers to economic development. Inquiries for applications are accepted on an ongoing basis and are generally reviewed within 14 days of receipt.
