Crosslake plans annual St. Patrick's Day activities
CROSSLAKE -- St. Patrick's Day activities in Crosslake will include the annual parade and Pot O' Gold treasure hunt.

The 31st annual St. Patrick's Day Parade will begin 2 p.m. March 12. The parade route travels south on County Road 66 from Log Landing road to the Crosslake Information Center, and ends north of Reed's parking lot on Pioneer Drive and Swan Drive.

Parade floats may be registered by calling Ruth Ann in the Crosslake office of the Brainerd Lakes Area Chambers of Commerce at (218) 692-1828 or Ione in the Pequot Lakes office of the chamber at (218) 568-8911. There is no float entry fee for chamber members, non-profits and youth categories. There is a $100 entry fee for all for profit businesses that are not chamber members.

Traveling trophies will be awarded to the first-place winners in the business/organization and youth categories. Criteria for judging floats will be creativity, originality and community.

"Blinkie" buttons are being sold for $4 at the Crosslake or Brainerd offices of the chamber, as well as at various Crosslake businesses.

The first clue for the Pot O' Gold treasure hunt will be released Thursday at Crosslake businesses, as well as published in the Lake Country Echo, Echoland Shopper and Brainerd Dispatch. Or listen to the clues by calling a recorded message at the chamber at (218) 822-7104 or by visiting the chamber Web site at explorebrainerdlakes.com.

Call the chamber at (218) 829-2838 for a complete list of rules. The winner will be announced during the parade.

Nisswa Women's Club accepting scholarship applications

NISSWA -- The Nisswa Women's Club will award three $1,000 scholarships to area high school seniors.

Applicants must have a grade-point average of 3.0 or higher and plan to attend an accredited post-secondary school. They must have lived within the boundaries of the Nisswa Elementary School bus route or attended Nisswa School for at least two years, and they must have attended 11th and 12th grades at Brainerd or Pequot Lakes high school.

Applications are available from Deb Balzer-Plagemann, Brainerd High School counselor, and Rita Ewert, Pequot Lakes High School counselor. Application deadline is March 30.

Scholarships will be awarded at the Senior Recognition Evening and winners will be presented at the club's general meeting May 19.

The scholarships are funded by the annual Nisswa Women's Club Fashion Show and Luncheon, which will be May 31 at Madden's Town Hall. For ticket information contact Evie Marshall at 963-4775.

Cuyuna Range Women's Club meeting is Monday

CROSBY -- The Cuyuna Range Women's Club will meet 2 p.m. Monday at the Jessie F. Hallett Memorial Library in Crosby.

Following the business meeting, Brainerd attorney John Erickson will present the program, "What's it Like to Publish a Book of Poetry with Your Own Photographs?" Erickson was chosen Crossing Arts Alliance Photographer of the Year for 2004. His photography has been exhibited throughout Minnesota.

Burton "Spike" LaBorde will provide music on the old-fashioned "button board," as well as the piano accordion.

Phyllis Giffin and her committee of Jeanette Weaver and Evelyn Sheets will serve refreshments.

All women of the area are invited to attend this program and are welcome to join the club. Annual dues are $3.
