Little Falls golf course eyes lease agreement Municipal links have lost money last two seasons Senior Reporter LITTLE FALLS -- A potential lease agreement may be teed up for the Little Falls municipal golf course.
On Monday, the Little Falls City Council authorized a listing agreement with Granite City Real Estate, Waite Park, to continue discussions with Traditions Golf.
Mayor Brian Mackinac said Traditions Golf is looking for distressed courses to take over. Traditions Golf has expressed interest in leasing the golf course for an extended time and making improvements.
The listing agreement has Granite City Real Estate receiving a 5 percent commission on the lease amount for the first 10 years should the city enter a lease with Traditions Golf.
City Attorney Peter Vogel reviewed the deed from R.D. Musser, Sarah Walker Musser and the now-defunct Little Falls Town and Country Club to the city. The land was donated in 1943. The deed includes a restriction where the property could revert to the Musser heirs if a municipal course of at least nine holes is not maintained.
Vogel said a lease transaction could be structured to keep the municipal course even if the city does not manage it. City Administrator Richard Carlson said Traditions Golf officials said they could live with that arrangement. If a lease agreement was made, property taxes would be collected on the course.
The 18-hole golf course made profits in 1999 ($13,657), 2000 ($68,312) and 2002 ($42,532) and lost money in 2001 ($54,272), 2003 ($7,048) and 2004 ($67,414).
Traditions Golf is expected to make a proposal to the city council at its March 7 meeting.
